My mood exactly. Click here for a funnier pic.
After the not-so-encouraging reviews, I was a bit skeptical while entering the movie hall to watch Spiderman-3. I’m a Spidey fan and was silently wishing that it wouldn’t be as bad as the Grandma-reviews that the Hindu posts – After all this is the costliest movie ever made.
Within a few minutes of the opening, one by one the villains start to appear and by the time you feel suffocated by the number of new characters, Spidey suddenly (well, not suddenly. The alien life-form does take its time to select and infect its host) turns black – Physically, mentally and spiritually. He’s beleaguered by problems all around him – a sulky girlfriend, his job under threat, friend-turned foe-Harry rooting for his head with better gadgets and not to mention, the ridiculously named and characterized Sandman. It makes even Peter lament at one point of time.
This must be the most complex episode of the franchise so for so that it’s not only Spidey, even MJ isn’t sparred by the cruel turn of events. Her career fails to take off, she’s jealous of Parker’s fame, falls for Harry – once again even if for a brief moment, and has to endure the sight of Peter wooing Gwen Stacy right before her eyes.
As with all comics, there comes a culmination of events which leads to an as-happy-a-ending as possible. Spidey conquers Sandman with his ability to forgive, while Venom falls prey to his addiction – power. Just like our very own Pazhan-thamil movies, Harry sethu vachufies Peter and MJ and dies smiling in their arms.
In the absence of a viable plot, the film does meander along at certain points but the CGI effects make you not only to sit up straight but also brings out the child in you.
Goodbye Toby. You did a good job of bring back Spidey in to our lives. Hopefully your successor will take it to more heights.
Two things bewildered me on that Saturday evening: Rahul Dravid chose to bat first on an wicket that promised to offer lateral movement and pace, and Sreesanth – the strike bowler for the season was sitting out. Was he trying to get better TRP for his boys? Or was he contemplating more batting practice for his team before entering the Super 8?
Looking ahead, I only wish India gets to chase in the coming matches. They are better at it and it will make the opposition play the game our way.
Looks like, with love, amnesia too is in the air (Psychogenic, Traumatic, Retrograde, Anti-retrograde whatever). First Salaam-E-Ishq, now Deepavali. Both films remind you of flicks like 50 First Dates, Moondraam Pirai and a couple of other movies. And it doesn’t help if you’ve just seen Paycheck.

Teller of tales, Master of intrigue, We’ll miss u sorely.
Few shots from my Hyd trip. More at my flickr page.
Heavens Rejoice. The title is finally out. Hope 2007 would be a great year for HP fans. with a film and a book (hopefully).
Its simple, powerful and private – the new Beta of Windows Live Mail desktop from Microsoft is sure to entice away many Thunderbird users.
At first glance, it looks like a repainted version of Outlook Express. But once u look around, u’ll sure like it. The familiarity of Outlook combined with a snazzy look could make Thunderbird and even Outlook go running for cover.
Whats new? Well, it boasts of easier Picture integration while sending attachments, an updated RSS feeds manager and Newsgroup manager.
But the piece de resistance would be the privacy part. Unlike most mail clients, in WLMdb, the application itself is password protected and you need to sign-in to even enter the Inbox. For privacy freaks like me, this is means added protection. New color schemes a la WMP11 or Nero adds to better visual appeal.
All’s well, but where’s the catch? Well, MS goes beyond even GMail in this. You got to put up with graphical ad banners (which I suspect is content-related) much like the DAP free version. In other words, the Outlook Express that we used to have for free is not free any more.
Try it out. You need a Hotmail/MSN passport (as a US user) to download and use it. Get it here.

Went to the temple after a long, long time, courtesy Vicky. He got married there last week. The temple is quite well maintained with minimum of litter and scum even in this Sabarimala season.
